I was watching "Gunsmoke" and Chester said that he was going to the Tonsorial. Anyone that knows how much I like to study "words," will guess what happened next. I had to stop and look it up -- "pertaining to barbers," 1813, from Latin tonsorius "of
or pertaining to shearing or shaving," from tonsor "a shaver or barber," from tonsus, past participle of tondere "to shear, shave."
.
Now we know where Chester was going -- the barber shop.
